Terms of Use

Effective: 9 May 2026 · Last updated: 19 June 2026

⚠ Not for Medical Emergencies

Hauffi is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency, including chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, stroke symptoms, or any life-threatening condition, do not use this app. Call 10177 (ambulance) or 112 (emergency) immediately.

Please read these Terms of Use carefully before creating an account or using the Hauffi platform. By registering or using Hauffi, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you") and Hauffi ("we", "us", "our") governing your access to and use of the Hauffi mobile application and web portal (collectively, the "Platform").

By clicking "I agree", creating an account, or using the Platform in any way, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), have read and understood these Terms, and agree to be bound by them.

2. Description of Service

Hauffi is a healthcare appointment booking platform that connects patients with registered healthcare practitioners in South Africa. The Platform allows:

  • Patients to search for doctors, view available appointment slots, and book consultations
  • Healthcare practitioners ("Doctors") to manage their availability, confirm appointments, and communicate with patients

Hauffi is a technology platform only. We are not a healthcare provider, medical practice, or insurer. We do not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment. All clinical decisions rest solely with the registered healthcare practitioner.

3. Not for Medical Emergencies

Hauffi is not an emergency service and must not be used in any situation that constitutes a medical emergency. The Platform is designed solely for scheduling non-emergency appointments with registered healthcare practitioners.

If you or another person is experiencing a medical emergency, including but not limited to chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, stroke symptoms, severe allergic reactions, heavy bleeding, or any condition that may be life-threatening, you must:

  • Call 10177 (ambulance services) or 112 (general emergency) immediately
  • Go to the nearest hospital emergency department
  • Contact your nearest emergency medical service (EMS)

The "See a Doctor Now" on-demand feature connects patients with available practitioners for non-emergency walk-in consultations only. It is not a substitute for emergency medical care. Hauffi expressly disclaims any liability for harm arising from the use of this Platform in place of emergency services.

By using the Platform, you acknowledge and agree that Hauffi is a scheduling tool only, and that you will contact emergency services in any situation where immediate medical intervention may be required.

4. Account Registration

To use the Platform you must create an account and provide accurate, current, and complete information.

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account at admin@hauffi.com
  • You may not create an account on behalf of another person without their explicit consent
  • You may not create more than one account per person

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that contains false information or that violates these Terms.

4.1. Dual-Role Accounts

A single Hauffi account may hold both a healthcare practitioner profile and a patient profile. If you create both profiles under one account:

  • Each profile maintains separate data, appointment history, and medical aid preferences
  • Your practitioner profile is subject to all healthcare practitioner obligations in Section 5
  • Your patient profile is subject to all patient obligations in Section 6
  • You may switch between practitioner and patient roles within the app, and your active role persists across sessions
  • Deleting your account will delete both profiles and all associated data

5. Healthcare Practitioner Obligations

If you register as a healthcare practitioner, you additionally warrant that:

  • You hold a valid, current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or equivalent body
  • You will maintain your HPCSA registration in good standing for as long as your Hauffi account is active
  • You will immediately suspend your account if your professional registration is suspended, withdrawn, or lapsed
  • All information you provide during verification (HPCSA number, identity documents, biometric data) is accurate and belongs to you
  • You will honour confirmed appointment bookings, or cancel with reasonable notice and a stated reason
  • You will set consultation fees that are accurate and inclusive of any applicable taxes
  • You will not solicit patients found through Hauffi to book outside the Platform for the purpose of avoiding Platform fees

6. Patient Obligations

As a patient, you agree that you will:

  • Book appointments in good faith and attend or cancel with at least 24 hours' notice where possible
  • Provide accurate medical aid information where requested
  • Not misrepresent your identity or health information to a practitioner
  • Understand that Hauffi is a booking intermediary only, your healthcare relationship is directly with the practitioner

7. Identity Verification (Practitioners)

To protect patients from fraud, healthcare practitioners are required to complete identity verification before their profile is made visible to patients. The verification process includes:

  • Biometric identity verification via our verification partner, Smile Identity (Smile ID). This involves capturing your face via selfie, liveness prompts, and your government-issued identity document within the Smile Identity flow
  • HPCSA credential check, automated or manual review of your HPCSA registration number against the public register
  • Document review, an authorised Hauffi admin reviews your uploaded HPCSA certificate and stored ID image to confirm name consistency

Smile Identity processes and retains your selfie, liveness check, and government-issued ID document exclusively. Hauffi receives only the verification outcome and your verified name. Hauffi stores your HPCSA certificate (image) for credential verification. Hauffi does not store your government-issued ID image — this is handled exclusively by Smile Identity.

By initiating the verification process, you explicitly consent to Smile Identity processing your biometric data and identity document under their Privacy Policy and in accordance with POPIA and applicable identity verification regulations.

8. Prohibited Conduct

You may not use the Platform to:

  • Impersonate any person or entity, including healthcare practitioners
  • Submit fraudulent bookings or false identity information
  • Harvest data about practitioners or patients for commercial purposes
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attack the Platform's infrastructure
  • Post reviews or ratings that are false, defamatory, or designed to harm a practitioner's reputation unfairly
  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to bypass identity verification, account verification, or any security control

9. Reviews and Ratings

Patients may leave ratings and written reviews for appointments they have attended. You agree that reviews you submit are:

  • Based on your genuine personal experience of the appointment
  • Not defamatory, offensive, or in breach of any person's rights
  • Free from confidential clinical information

Hauffi reserves the right to remove reviews that violate these standards. Practitioners may report reviews they believe are false or defamatory to admin@hauffi.com.

10. Payment and Fees

Hauffi displays the consultation fee set by each practitioner. For standard appointments, patients and practitioners typically arrange payment directly unless otherwise stated by the practitioner.

  • Consultation fees displayed on the Platform are set by individual practitioners and may change without notice
  • Co-payment details issued by practitioners are informational and do not by themselves mean Hauffi processed the consultation payment
  • Hauffi may process platform-related charges for certain features, including patient on-demand/walk-in fees and practitioner subscription fees, through approved payment partners
  • Where Hauffi processes a platform-related payment, the applicable amount, authorization, refund, and cancellation terms will be shown in the product flow or billing screen before the charge is completed

11. Intellectual Property

The Hauffi name, logo, and all Platform content (excluding user-submitted content) are the exclusive property of Hauffi. You may not use, reproduce, or distribute our intellectual property without prior written consent.

By submitting content to the Platform (reviews, profile information), you grant Hauffi a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content on the Platform for the purposes of providing the service.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Hauffi is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful code
  • We are not responsible for the quality, safety, or legality of any healthcare services provided by practitioners listed on the Platform
  • We are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform
  • Our total aggregate liability is limited to ZAR 1,000 per user per claim, to the extent permitted by applicable law

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law (including rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 where applicable).

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Hauffi, its directors, employees, and agents harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or any applicable law, or from your use of the Platform.

14. Termination

You may delete your account at any time, no notice period required:

  • Doctors (web portal): Profile → Danger zone → Delete my account
  • Patients and doctors (mobile app): Profile → Delete Account

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if your professional registration lapses (practitioners), or if we reasonably believe that your account poses a risk to other users. We will attempt to give reasonable notice before termination unless the circumstances require immediate action.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of South Africa. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall first be referred to mediation before any court proceedings are initiated. If mediation fails, disputes shall be resolved in the courts of South Africa.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via push notification or email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
